Signal Spam Frequently Asked Questions

1) Report

  • I have just registered, how can I report my spam?

One-click reporting with an extension for your email software:
    https://www.signal-spam.fr/tous-les-modules/

This will allow you to transmit messages very easily, with a simple click. It is both very simple and effective for the user.

You can also choose to report via the online form:
    https://www.signal-spam.fr/trouver-code-source/

  • I haven't found a plugin for my email, how can I report my spam to you?

If no plug-in has yet been developed for your email, you can use our online reporting form.

    https://www.signal-spam.fr/trouver-code-source/

We do not take into account reports received on our support address.

  • How to consult the "header" (source code) of messages?

The header of an e-mail allows to know some data concerning the sender as well as the "path" of the message on the Internet; it is a little bit equivalent to the seals, stamps and addresses appearing on a postal envelope.

This is particularly useful for identifying the real sender of spam or junk mail. Your e-mail software allows you to easily find these headers and the time-stamped IP address of the connection from which the message was sent.

Here you will find detailed instructions for each email program or web browser you use by clicking here

  • I am receiving emails from my own email address, should I report them?

This is a very common problem.
Indeed, spammers often use the Internet users' own addresses to send them unwanted messages.

Please note that when analysing the spam we receive, we do not only use the sender's address, but also a lot of information such as IP, domain, etc., which is present in the complete header of the e-mail.

So you will never be blocked because of this.
Please do not hesitate to inform us of such e-mails.

  • How do I delete an erroneously reported email?

2) Processing of alerts

  • Classification of alerts

Signal Spam uses the qualification engine of VadeSecurewhich equips French messaging services (Orange, Free, SFR, Laposte.net, etc.).

So you don't need to categorise the spam. The information is processed automatically.

The classification we present on the site is only given as an indication based on a categorisation algorithm used by the anti-spam of French email providers.

Actions are taken automatically irrespective of the spam classification, e.g. according to the sending IP address, domain, subject, etc., based on the number of occurrences in the complaints of Internet users.

In addition, any spam reported by you is kept at the disposal of the authorities.

So when you report an email to Signal Spam, its basic status will be " spam "It is your description that defines it as such.

This will be the least qualified category with the most false positives.

But an alert is always a very strong indicator, even if it is a legitimate email.

The other classifications abusive mailing ", " phishing ", " scam ", " malicious "and " notification "This is based on technical elements of headers and source code, as well as on the interpretation of the content.

The first category " abusive mailing "This includes commercial marketing messages that you should not or no longer receive. The next three (" phishing ", " scams ", " malicious The term "cyber-crime" covers all the abuses of a cyber-criminal nature that can occur in your e-mail.

The " notifications "Finally, these are e-mails that are in principle legitimate, such as transactional e-mails.

All reports are processed, regardless of their classification.

  • Unsubscription assistance service

When your reports correspond to messages from advertisers or routers, members or entitled persons of Signal Spam, this support service allows you to treat it as an unsubscription request.

By choosing to activate this service (at any time in your space for signalling), you will therefore not be automatically unsubscribed from all the mailing lists of the reported e-mails, but only from those coming from a member of the association whose the list is available here.

  • I report my spam regularly and yet... it continues. How is this possible?

Signal Spam works in partnership with public authorities and Internet professionals to combat spam and spammers.

The spam you send us is analysed and forwarded to the relevant authorities.

So we do not act as a filter but try to act upstream and hope that their disappearance will be gradual.

However, you should also have a filter in your email to reduce the amount of spam you receive in your inbox.

  • To whom is the spam sent?

The objective of Signal Spam is to centralise spam reports in order to analyse them and help those, both public authorities and private actors, who are fighting against this scourge.

The reports made to Signal Spam are first analysed in order to improve knowledge of the phenomenon, in particular the evolution of spammers' techniques.

Thanks to this database, Signal Spam will be able to periodically publish studies on spam in France.

Alerts are also used to strengthen the security of the Internet.

Within this framework, the reports are transmitted, after having anonymized the reporting user, to technical partners who act to reinforce the security of the network, by fighting for example against the phenomenon of "zombie computers" or "phishing".

Signal Spam's partners undertake in this context to use these reports for the benefit of this technical fight against spam, in accordance with the legal provisions in force.

Finally, Signal Spam also undertakes to transmit reports, after having anonymised the reporting user, to the competent public authorities if they so request. In this way, Signal Spam actively participates in the authorities' fight against the authors of spam.
